Holidays are here and you're looking for fun filled events and activities! Each year, Oakland County and SE Michigan are filled with lots to do! We've sifted through all of them and have come up with a few of our festive favorites, from skating in Detroit, Santa Clause arrivals to Menorah in the D, this list of 10+ ideas is sure to get you in the holiday spirit!
The free community event will take place at the Novi Civic Center and the Novi Library. Marshmallow Roasting, Ice Sculptures, Santa Visits, Petting Farm, Kids Crafts, Craft Show, Tree Lighting, Train Rides and Variety Shows.
Shain Park will come alive with activity during the City of Birmingham's sixth annual Birmingham Winter Markt event. Attendees will enjoy European food and drinks, gift items, holiday greens, crafts, ice carving demonstrations, live reindeer, warming stations, a Kinderhaus children's activity area, the popular Santa House, horse-drawn carriage rides and live entertainment.

Over 70 institutions, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Michigan Science Center, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Historical Museum, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Detroit Public Library, will open their doors to the public free of charge during this Cultural Center-wide holiday open house. Activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family craft activities and performances by over 200 area music, theatre, and dance groups, and other special performances by Madeleine Peyroux, Bronze Radio Return, The Diving Bell,Imani Winds, Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys and Thornetta Davis.

Step back in time with vintage trolley rides, carolers, a petting zoo, treats, and deals from the unique restaurants and shops downtown leading up to the Hometown Holidays Lights Parade. After the parade, gather to enjoy the tree lighting, visit with Santa, drink some hot cocoa, and get in the spirit while riding in a horse drawn carriage

Year five features horse and buggy rides, zip lines, a kosher food court, and the chance to see a giant Menorah brighten the sky.
- Sunday, December 6th from 3-8p.m. | Located at Campus Martius Park
Each year, residents gather around the tree in Clawson Memorial Park and sing songs of the season as the annual tree lighting takes place. Santa Claus makes an appearance and has been known to bring along a reindeer a time or two for everyone to see. Refreshments are served and children will get a chance to share their ideas for presents from Santa's lap. It is a fun event for all and you can the City Calendar for more details as the season approaches.

The Holiday Ice Festival is a hometown-celebration of the holiday season, featuring a display of ice sculptures, live reindeer, hay-ride and a visit from Santa Claus!

Bundle up the family for some outdoor fun because Ford House will be putting a little sparkle around your steps this holiday season! Enjoy twinkling lights and holiday music while you stroll around the grounds. Then, spend time around the outdoor fire pit as you listen to interactive storytellers, sing carols, and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and holiday treats!

Check in at the 1927 Dairy Barn and see the All Aboard! Model Train display. A wagon ride takes you to all of our Museum buildings for musical entertainment, crafts, snacks, theater groups, and even chestnuts roasting over an open fire! Call 248-656-4663 for ticket info.

Experience the magic of the Detroit Zoo in winter as you take in the lights and the sights and enjoy holiday activities and entertainment for children to adults. For 24 nights, More than five million LED lights will illuminate trees, buildings and more than 100 animal sculptures throughout the front of the Zoo.

There isn't a ballroom big enough to house what you will experience this New Year's Eve! The Drop is located in the heart of Downtown Detroit at Campus Martius & Cadillac Square with an evening festival with something for everyone! At midnight witness a visual spectacle unrivaled in all of the Midwest when we lower the "D" to countdown to 2016. Free & kid friendly!
